Local governments across the region are working with the North Central Texas Council of Governments (NCTCOG) to develop the Dallas-Fort Worth (DFW) Air Quality Improvement Plan (AQIP). The DFW AQIP will create a roadmap for the region to improve air quality, protect public health, and reduce impacts of extreme weather events. The development of this plan is funded through a grant from the Environmental Protection Agency's (EPA) Climate Pollution Reduction Grants (CPRG) Program.

Background on the CPRG
The CPRG is a two-phase grant program which will provide grants to develop and implement plans for reducing greenhouse gas emissions.
The first phase, the CPRG planning grants, will provide $250 million for noncompetitive planning grants to develop a regional plan to improve air quality. Development of the plan is a required step for any eligible local government to access the $4.6 billion of CPRG implementation grant funding from the second phase of the CPRG.
The NCTCOG was awarded $1 million in funds from the CPRG planning grants on behalf of the region. As a recipient of these funds, NCTCOG is required to develop a Priority Climate Action Plan and a Comprehensive Climate Action Plan. These plans will be developed into the comprehensive, multi-pollutant Dallas-Fort Worth Air Quality Improvement Plan.
